DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- A Tanzanian official saidWednesday that Tanzania has been selected to house the center ofAfrican Liberation Heritage Programme that seeks to celebrateAfrica's recent past in which Africans achieved their freedomthrough struggle and sacrifice.

 

Tanzania and South Africa agreed the center should be located inthe East African nation's political capital Dodoma after bilateraltalks between held there, Tanzanian Minister for Information Nick Vannett Jersey ,Culture, Arts and Sports, Harrison Mwakyembe, told a newsconference.

 

Mwakyembe said the two countries appointed a special committeeto explain the creation of the center to the Southern AfricanDevelopment Community (SADC) in accordance with the African Unionand the United Nations Educational, Scientific and CulturalOrganization (UNESCO).

 

"The program will enable Tanzanians and Africans at large topreserve the liberation heritage and write their own history," saidthe minister.

 

"Currently stories on the liberation struggle are still inpeople's heads. We need them to tell us of what happened and putthem in writing and other format such as videos and audiorecordings for future generations to understand our past."

 

He said his ministry has already conducted interviews with atleast 100 liberation struggle veterans in efforts to preserve thehistory.
