(AP) — Sam Darnold is one step closer to returning from his foot injury.The New York Jets rookie quarterback was a full participant at practice Wednesday, putting him on track to start at Buffalo against the Bills on Sunday."That's the goal," Darnold said. "I'm really excited about this week and where we're headed. I'm really excited about how I felt today, so as of right now, I'm really excited about hopefully getting a chance to play on Sunday." Despite Darnold fully participating and Josh McCown limited with a sore back, coach Todd Bowles wouldn't commit to the rookie starting this week."We'll see," Bowles said. "It's too early in the week."Darnold certainly is preparing as though he'll be playing in the icy cold of Buffalo, where the temperature is expected to be right around freezing Sunday.So, instead of hitting the practice field bundled up in layers Wednesday with the temps in the low-30s, the California kid wore a short-sleeved shirt."It was cold today White Juston Burris Jerseys , but I had a little wet suit underneath," Darnold said with a big grin. Darnold returned to practice on a limited basis last week , but was not active last Sunday as McCown started in his place for the third straight game. Bowles said the No. 3 overall pick was working on shaking off the rust by getting his timing right."He looked fine," Bowles said of Darnold's performance Wednesday. "I mean, he threw the ball around pretty good, but it's Day 1, so we're trending."Darnold acknowledged that there's occasional soreness as he works his way back from the foot injury, the details of which haven't been disclosed other than the team calling it a "strain." The quarterback was in a walking boot for a few days after the injury and has been gradually improving during the last four weeks."I knew it was three or four weeks, but for me it was really just depending on how I felt Juston Burris Jerseys 2019 , if I felt ready to go, so hopefully this week," Darnold said. Contrarily, Adam Gase recently confirmed the Jets will be remaining in a 3-4 base defense.However, there’s a reason this pursuit makes some sense - Barr could project well to a 3-4 outside linebacker role. He racked up 23.5 sacks as a 3-4 outside linebacker over his final two seasons at UCLA before he was made a top ten pick in the 2014 Draft. Barr hasn’t had many opportunities to rush the passer in the role he has been playing for the Vikings, but he has been excellent when asked to. According to Pro Football Focus, in 2018 Barr led all linebackers with a 13.8 pass-rushing productivity percentage, accumulating 23 pressures on just 94 pass-rush snaps.The Jets could see Barr as a pass rushing answer at outside linebacker.In addition to the pass rushing flashes in small sample sizes White Brandon Shell Jerseys , the athleticism has always been there. Barr ran the three cone drill in 6.82 seconds at 6’5, 255 pounds, making him the only player to run it that fast at that height and weight.This is an interesting pursuit. I’d be very intrigued to see what Barr could do in this presumably more suitable role. However, it might not be the smartest idea to invest big-time money into a player switching positions, and expecting him to be your pass rushing answer.With all of that said, Barr is a versatile and athletic player who could potentially fit into a lot of different roles. The Jets could envision him pass rushing more often in their defense, but he could also provide versatility that few players on their roster currently offer.Barr has been an integral part of a Minnesota team that is third in scoring defense since he was drafted, after ranking second worst in the three seasons prior to his selection.
